ALEC Certification

ALEC offers two levels of certifications for Law Enforcement Chaplains. The Basic certification is to provide a basic level of competency while the Advanced Certification is designed for those with Basic Certifications who wish to further their expertise in chaplaincy. Please see the certification requirements below:
Basic Certification
- Application AND Membership fee—$50.00 required.
- Application deadline – Open
Basic Certification Requirements
- Active, appointed, law enforcement chaplain to a department, in good standing and currently serving as a chaplain.
- Complete and submit application and fee for membership.
- Complete 6 of the core courses and 2 elective courses for basic certification.
- Complete FEMA courses (free and on our own time).
To remain in good standing with ALEC chaplains must complete six (6) CEUs annually and submit CEUs along with annual membership dues of $50.00.
CEU CreditOptions
- Complete courses by attending and participating at the annual metro-wide training
- Take courses online
- Complete a mix of in person with online courses
Please submit and request verification of training received through colleges, accredited law enforcement training schools or agencies comparable to training presented or endorsed by ALEC. The ALEC Executive Committee will determine the number of CEUs to be granted for each course submitted.

- Active, appointed law enforcement chaplain to a department for five (5) years or longer, in good standing, meet the requirements for Basic Certification, and currently serving as a chaplain.
- Complete and submit application and fee for membership.
- Complete 6 of the core courses and 2 elective courses for basic certification.
- Complete FEMA courses (free and on your own time).
